Abstract:This report is the result of a panel study conducted to examine the technology requirements for information management in support of application domains of particular government interest including mission operations, scientific data management and digital libraries. The need to interoperate with many diverse information resources to assure that future systems will be interoperable and adaptable to resources that are not yet recognized was one of the findings of the study. The panel concludes that a coordinated approach to information management is needed for the highly distributed, large amounts of data, and high degree of heterogeneity of sources, data, and users that characterize applications of government interest.
