Abstract:This article describes Harvard's efforts in building its first-generation digital library infrastructure. Some of the key issues addressed include: metadata, technical formats, reformatting, legal issues, preservation, interfaces and access. Other areas discussed include the development of a core set of systems to support digital collections and the definition of an overall technical framework.
